What is this test for?
HPV, one of the leading causes of sexually transmitted infections, causes cutaneous (warts) and mucosal lesions (malignant or benign) depending on the anatomical site it affects. Malignant transformation resulting from cervical involvement, particularly in the female genital tract, has been scientifically proven. HPV is divided into many subtypes according to its genome sequence. The subtypes with particular tropism for the cervix that play the most important role in cancer etiology are 16 and 18. The HPV DNA Genotyping test can detect all types.
