What is this test for?
At the molecular level, the Philadelphia chromosome is the BCR/ABL fusion gene, formed by the joining of the 5′ region of the BCR gene at 22q11 to the 3′ region of the ABL gene located at 9q34 (chromosome 9). Depending on the breakpoints within BCR, this fusion results in a chimeric BCR/ABL1 gene encoding the P190 BCR/ABL1 and P210 BCR/ABL1 proteins. P190 BCR/ABL1 is positive in 60% of adult ALL patients and 80% of pediatric ALL cases.
