Preparation
24-Hour Urine must be collected into one of the following: 50% acetic acid (25 mL), or alternatively 6M HCl (30 mL) or boric acid (10 g). Keep refrigerated and record the total urine volume collected. Serotonin-rich foods (chocolate, vanilla, avocado, banana, citrus fruits, eggplant, pineapple, tomato, walnuts, plums, tea, coffee), aspirin and some antihypertensive drugs may affect serotonin metabolism. These should be stopped 3 days before urine collection begins.)
